  • Just home after 4 days at Big Land Lodge… what an absolute fantastic team at this Lodge. 5 star rating doesn’t cut it for these guys. Rob French guided us most of the trip and he is absolutely on it for every detail…. tips on flies, where to fish the pools, just absolute attention to his clients. Constantly asking “are you ok” , his concern for your safety and experience was absolutely over the top and much appreciated by all the guests. My buddy broke his rod on the river and without missing a beat one of the staff was back to the lodge to get him a loaner. Just unbelievable people at this lodge.

Accommodations were amazing as well. Absolutely spotlessly clean and comfortable rooms, I slept better than I have in months.

Food , well buckle up, OMG, prime rib, lobster, deserts, just amazing. The shore lunch at the cabin on the river of halibut and moose was over the top. I can’t say enough about Rob and his team and our experience. I didn’t want to leave and will definitely be back.

  • I had such a great trip in 2024 I went back again and had an even better trip in 2025. It was like coming home. The fishing was fantastic, the guides top notch, the accommodations were great, and the food was awesome. Expect another review, just as glowing as this one, next year.

  • Best salmon fishing trip ever! Rob, Matt, the kitchen staff, and the guides did an excellent job. The food is great and the lodge is very inviting with comfortable beds, plenty of washrooms, and a lounge to hang in after a long day on the river. Everyone caught fish during our week. I was fortunate enough to land two beautiful salmon larger than 20 pounds. Labrador is a rugged beautiful place. It was the perfect trip.

  • If you want to visit a fishing lodge where you feel like you're part of the family, Big Land Lodge is the place. The owners Rob and Matt as well as the guides and lodge staff are amazing. They treat you like an old friend and go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your trip. The accommodations and food are comfortable and welcoming.

The salmon fishing is outstanding. Fishing the Pinware and Forteau Rivers, our group of four landed 18 salmon in five days and hooked many more. In addition, we took a short float plane ride to a small stream where many brook trout that hadn't seen a fly in months were caught.

In summary, if you are looking to fish for Atlantic salmon and brook trout in a spectacular environment, look no further than Big Land Lodge.

  • We had several amazing guides throughout the week, including Amanda, Glen, Keith, Ben, and Rob (one of the owners of the lodge). Neither my husband or I had ever fished for Atlantic Salmon before, and between the two of us we hooked more than 14 and landed 8 over the course of our stay. The places you get to fish are breathtaking, and the guides go out of their way to try different spots, flies, and techniques to help you find fish. Rob also knew how much my husband wanted to find big Brook trout (they're his favorite fish and they're much smaller at home) and went out of his way to make sure Carl had the chance to fish for them on multiple days.

To say this is one of the best trips we've ever been on is an understatement. We loved every moment we got to spend at the lodge, on the rivers, and at the cottage. We didn't want to leave at the end of the week, and hope we'll have the chance to come back very, very soon.

If you're considering booking with Big Land Lodge: do it. You'll be forever grateful for the opportunity to spend a week there with a handful of the best people, fish, and food you could hope to meet!

We stayed at the Big Land Lodge second week of July 2022 for seven nights / six days fishing. Lodge is very comfortable and clean with great food. The bring your own drinks bar upstairs is a great place to relax and meet other anglers. after a full day on the nearby pools. Rob and his staff did a great job and nothing was too much trouble. River was high at the start of the week and got higher. We had good fishing as the river dropped back and saw many fresh salmon running the Pinware. If you are looking for a top place to stay on the Pinware then Big Land Lodge should be the number one choice. Hope to see you next year

Wow! What an introduction to Labrador. A place where I always wanted to go. I could not believe the ease of access to the Big Land and such a first rate fishing lodge. The drive was so scenic up through Gros Morne National Park, and the short ferry ride over was a bonus. Then when I hit the lodge the feeling of remoteness made for the perfect trip. I wanted to explore and the boys did not disappoint. I have to say that every spot we fished felt like an out of the way place that few get to experience. Rob and Matt certainly showed us awesome hospitality, and indeed you can tell that the entire staff care that you have a great time and a true Labrador experience. Thanks Walter. That was the right fly "old Walter" said to try! Thanks everyone else as well. Food was great and I think if I listen really well, the Whisky Jack Lounge is calling for another story! See you again soon. Can't wait!

Rob, Matt and their staff offer a 1st class fishing experience. I have enjoyed fishing the Pinware for several years now, but in recent years, Big Land Fishing Lodge and Tours has been home base while in Southern Labrador. The lodge offers all the comforts of home; it is clean as a whistle; it offers a great menu; and, the staff is friendly and courteous. In terms of salmon fishing, few places offer a better chance to hook-up on a big fish. The Tidal Pool, the Chute Pool, the Boulders, Watsons, and Fellows Rocks to name a few places, all provide excellent fishing. Come prepared with a good reel and rod, and quality leader line... you will need it. If ease of access and world class salmon fishing is something that you are looking for, Big Land Fishing Lodge and Tours should be your next destination. I would encourage anyone to check them out. Fish on!
